OPENING RECEPTION:
WE THE PEOPLE

Thursday, August 17, 7 – 9 p.m.
Members-only preview: 5:30 – 7 p.m.
Minnesota Museum of American Art

How would you complete the phrase, “We the People…”?

Join us to celebrate the opening of We the People, for which the M invited four guest curators to select work by prominent local and national artists shedding new light on the complexities of contemporary American experience.

“We the people,” the opening words of the U.S. Constitution, serves as a national slogan and a rallying cry. But who constitutes the “we” in that formative phrase? In response to that question, independent curator and artist Christopher Harrison, Johnnay Leenay (Minnesota Museum of American Art), Mary Anne Quiroz (Indigenous Roots Cultural Center), and Maggie Thompson (All My Relations gallery) present artworks with disparate cultural points of view. Artists include Star Wallowing Bull, Zackary Drucker, Rico Gatson, Susan Hauptman, Nooshin Hakim Javadi, Steve Ozone, and others.

Mingle with the curators of the show, get a first look at this compelling new exhibition, and leave your own declarations of national identity and purpose on our response wall in the gallery’s Materials Lab. A cash bar will be available.
